Nuclear energy: risks and consequences

Consequences of a decisive scientific breakthrough in the 20th century

Nuclear energy is a perfect example of how scientific discoveries can lead to extremely diverse results: on the one hand, an efficient source of energy that emits very little CO2; on the other, a terribly lethal weapon with long-term fallout. The consequences of nuclear energy can be seen in many areas: irradiation and the creation of no-go zones; the search for uranium, with its major geopolitical stakes; nuclear tests with sometimes lethal fallout for nearby residents; and so on. Our collection examines certain aspects of nuclear energy.
